The Meeting
Our weekly meetings are designed to be totally supportive environments and to give everyone a pleasant space to practice public speaking. Guests are welcome to participate in our first section, where our Topics Master for the night asks people impromptu questions, so you will be invited to speak your very first night!
The second hour of the night is the time club members practice prepared speeches and get evaluations by other members. Both the speeches and the evaluations are opportunities for members to work through fears about speaking and giving feedback and to improve on specific goals from the Toastmasters pathway they selected. In between the two foundational segments of our meetings, our club (Gettin’ Toasty #147) specifically features a variety of special speaking segments like debate panels, mock interviews, and improv. We also welcome creative ideas on other things we can do in this brief section.
OUR NEW LOCATION!
As of April 1, 2019, the Gettin’ Toasty club no longer meets at the Sherman Oaks Galleria Community Room. After many, many years, The Galleria’s rules changed and they no longer offer the community room free of charge to non-profits like Toastmasters. We are grateful to have been able to have our meetings there every Monday night for nearly 15 years! But alas… we are looking for a new permanent home for our Monday night meetings.
In the meantime we have successfully rotated through a few locations to hold our meetings in and around Sherman Oaks as much as possible. Some of the locations we have rotated amongst are the Van Nuys Flyaway, the Woodland Hills Fire Station, and the North Hollywood Police Station.
We typically have our meeting venues secured around 2 to 4 weeks in advance. As a member you will be notified weekly where the next meetings are and you can also look it up on the Role Sign-up Sheet.
As a prospective guest, we would STILL LOVE TO HAVE YOU, but you will need to email David Chatfield to get the location that week!
For prospective guests: To get the location of the meeting for the week you want to attend, please email David Chatfield at dmchatfield@gmail.com and he will send you the information.
You may also request to be put on our weekly update of the location until we find a permanent new location.
We look forward to seeing all members and guests at our meetings! Our roaming home has only made the Toastmaster fire and commitment burn more brightly!
